Hair Oil – Traditional way


Here are some traditional methods of preparing hair oil at home using the tamil herbs that are found commonly.In this modern age, these herbs may not be seen in and around us, but atleast can be bought from the Country Drug Shops (Naatu marunthu kadai). In these shops, either the ingredients can be bought raw or in powdered form.

Hair care is one of the most important for all and especially for the ladies. Indians prefer black long hair. Here are some of the hair oil recipes that can be prepared at home with the given ingredients. Being herbal in all way, these hair oil can be used without any side effects.

Ingredients
Vellai karisalankanni leaves
Coconut oil or sesame oil
Hair oil preparation method
  • Collect vellai karisalankanni(white karisalankanni) leaves or you can even use the whole  plant with the stem.
  • Make it into fine paste. This can be done in a mixer.
  • With the paste of karisalankanni, make small ball and press into  a circle shape.(in the size of 1 rupee coin).
  • Dry this pieces in shade for 2 to 3 days until it is completely dry.
  • Soak 2 pieces of this dried karisalankanni for 3 days in small amount of coconut oil or sesame oil.
  • Apply the oil on the scalp. Do not soak too much of karisalnakanni pieces because if the pieces are not fully dry , then that may spoil the oil.
  • So whenever needed, soak the pieces in the oil and use the oil.
  • This when done continuously for 3 to 6 months, will give good result. This method of oil will help in reducing and preventing the premature graying of hair.
Hair Oil at home for Faster hair growth
Ingredients
Hibiscus also called as Shoe Flower – sembaruthi in Tamil(Adukku sembaruthi as shown in the picture below) about 20 flowers
Coconut oil – 1 cup (about 100 ml)

Method to prepare hair oil
  • Put a thick bottomed vessel.
  • Heat the coconut oil.
  • When it starts to boil, or when it starts fuming, add the whole hibiscus flowers in the oil.
  • Put off the stove and let the flowers be in the coconut oil until the oil come to room temperature.
  • Strain and store the oil in a bottle.
  • Apply this oil daily to see fast growing and to get black hair.
  • Even before head bath, massage this oil before 2 hours of your shower.
  • Do this continuously for 6 months to see the result. You can get healthy hair.
Hair Oil Recipe – Traditional preparation method of Tamilnadu
Hair oil that stimulates hair growth. This is one another method of preparing hair oil.
Ingredients:
Henna leaves(Maruthani Illai) – 1 cup
Vellai Karisalankanni (false daily leaves) Illai – 1 cup
Hibiscus Flower(sembaruthi in Tamil – adukku sembaruthi is better. If you cannot get adukku sembaruthi , regular 5 petal hibiscus can be used) – 20 in number
Curry leaves – 1 cup
Coconut oil – 4 cups

Method of preparing the oil:
  • Grind each of henna, karisalankanni, hibiscus separately and extract the liquid.
  • Heat a thick bottomed vessel (iron pan is better) and add the coconut oil.
  • Add the other liquids in the oil and let it boil.
  • Keep it on heat until all the moisture evaporates.
  • Switch off the stove when the oil is left without any moisture.
  • Let it come to room temperature.
  • Store it in a container.
  • Use it daily on the scalp and hair
  • Improves hair growth considerably.
Hair Oil at home with Indian Gooseberry(Nellikai), Hibiscus(Sembaruthi), False Daisy(Karisalankanni), Curry Leaves(Karuvepilai)
Ingredients :
Indian Gooseberry (Nellikai)
Hibiscus(sembaruthi)
False Daisy(karisalankanni)
Curry Leaves(karuvepilai)
Coconut Oil

Method to prepare hair oil :
  • Take equal amount( a handful of) of Indian gooseberry, hibiscus flowers(adukku sembaruthi is preferred than 5 petal sembaruthi), False Daisy leaves, curry leaves.
  • Grind all the leaves and flowers and make into fine paste without adding much water. The moisture in the leaves and flower is enough to make into fine paste.
  • Heat a iron pan. Add 1 litre of coconut oil.
  • When oil is getting hot, add the paste in the oil and keep the stove in sim.
  • Wait till all the moisture is evaporated.
  • Put off the stove and let the oil get cooled.
  • Filter and store the oil in a bottle.
  • This oil can be massaged on the scalp daily for good hair growth. Amla also gives black hair and prevents premature graying of the hair. This oil will also reduce the hair fall.
  • If you cannot apply daily, massage the scalp and hair 3 hours before your shower. Wash with mild shampoo or shikakai.
