where Shiva Ji born. Shivneri Fort is located 16 km from Narayangaon. It is a historic monument as it is the place where Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born and spent his childhood. This place is also popular for trekking around the hilly terrain and is especially known for its toughness to climb. Located at a spot with natural defenses such as steep rocks, it was considered tough for enemies to attack the fort; and so, Shahaji Bhonsale, father of Shivaji, moved his wife to this fort during her pregnancy. This Maratha fort also houses a Devi temple and according to history, Shivaji was named after the deity of this temple. The fort lies in the midst of fertile lands with lush greenery. The architecture and artistry of the fort attract many visitors.

जुन्नर के पास स्थित शिवनेरी किला अपनी वास्तुकला की शैली और महान मराठा योद्धा शिवाजी महाराज के जन्म स्थान के लिए प्रसिद्द है। सन 1630 में शिवाजी का जन्म यहाँ हुआ और उन्होंने सैन्य प्रशिक्षण भी यही प्राप्त किया।मुख्य किले में प्रवेश करने से पहले सात फाटकों को पार करने के विचार से पर्यटक अचंभित हो जाते हैं।किले के परिसर में पानी का एक छोटा तालाब भी है जिसे बादामी तालाब भी कहा जाता है तथा यह किले के केंद्र में स्थित है। शिवाजी की माँ जीजाबाई और शिवाजी की मूर्ति यहाँ देखी जा सकती है।किले के पास ही एक मंदिर है जो देवी शिवानी को समर्पित है और यहाँ रहते हुए इसे अवश्य देखें।
