Prof. Satyendra Nath Bose (1 January 1894 – 4 February 1974) was an Indian Bengali physicist specializing in mathematical physics. He is best known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s, providing the foundation for Bose–Einstein statistics and the theory of the Bose–Einstein condensate.
Last year, there was a release of new data pointing to the existence of the Higgs boson "God particle". What is largely unknown, at least to non-specialists, is that the term "boson" owes its name to the pioneering work of Satyendra Nath Bose. In 1924, he sent a paper to Albert Einstein describing a statistical model that eventually led to the discovery of what became known as the Bose-Einstein condensate phenomenon.
