Indian Hindu Wedding 7 Vows of Bride Groom


Marriages in India are considered to be very holy and auspicious. Whenever we think of Indian Hindu wedding what comes to our mind is celebrations, joy, and happiness. It symbolizes tradition, culture, and rituals. Marriage is not an association of just two peoples but an association of two families and the wedding ceremony is a long affair and can last 5 to 10 days. It is usually conducted after dawn and continues till sunrise.

Wedding Rituals

It can be divided into three parts pre-marriage, during marriage and post marriage.

Pre-marriage – Rituals such as sagai, mehndi (henna), haldi, and wedding songs sung by ladies 5 to 7 days before.

Sagai: it refers to the exchange of rings by the bride and the groom.
Mehndi: In it people decorate their hands with henna.
Haldi: A paste is made out of turmeric powder and applied to both bride and the groom.

During Marriage

Rituals includes jaimala where both bride and groom exchanges garlands. Then the 7 vows and post it mangalsutra and sindoor.

7 Vows of Bride and Groom During Indian Hindu Wedding

1st Vow

Groom: You will give me food and help me in every way. I will satisfy all your needs and keep you happy life long
Bride: I will take care of all household responsibilities.

2nd Vow

Groom: I promise to protect you, our house and our children from any threat.
Bride: I will be your strength and courage and will be happy in your happiness in return you will love me and will not look at other girls.

3rd Vow

Groom: You prove to be lucky for me and we grow prosperous day by day and would try to give the best education to our children
Bride: You will be the first and most important man in my life and I will love you and only you. Every other man will be secondary in my life.

4th Vow

Groom: You have brought holiness into my life, and have completed me as my better half. May God bless us with noble and obedient children.
Bride: I will try my best to keep you happy and prosperous and will please you in every possible way.

5th Vow

Groom: From today on-wards you are my well wisher and by best friend. So I pray to God to be with you always.
Bride: From today on-wards all your happiness are my happiness and all your sorrows are mine. I promise to trust and respect you.

6th Vow

Groom: I pray to god to give to happiness and peace.
Bride: I promise to be by your side in happiness and sorrows.

7th Vow

Groom: with this 7th vow we are husband and wife and are one.
Bride: In the witness of God I am yours for eternity and you are mine.

Ashirwad

Both of them take the blessings of their elders for a happy and prosperous life.
