Seven Ways to Naturally Get Rid of Your Sore Throat Quickly

Unless you happen to have been very lucky in the past, the chances are that at some point in your life, you will have felt the effects of a sore throat. Sore throats and colds and flu’s go hand in hand with one another, but still, a sore throat can strike at any time, even if you haven’t been exposed to any harmful cold or flu germs. Although sore throats aren't life threatening, they are still very painful, and can cause you a great deal of discomfort and distress.

If you happen to be unfortunate enough to suffer from sore throats frequently, then this article might very well be of some significant use to you. In it we’ll be looking at seven ways to naturally get rid of your sore throat, for good! We’ll be looking at cheap, easy, and natural remedies that have been tried and tested over many years, that work to destroy a sore throat before it gets chance to develop into something much more serious. So without any further ado, here are seven natural remedies for getting rid of a sore throat fast.

Gargle with plain salt water –
Simply take a glass, fill it with warm water, and add a tea spoon of salt. Stir the salt in until it’s completely dissolved in the solution, and you’re then ready to begin gargling. Ensure the liquid reaches all the way to the back of your throat, tilt your head backwards, and then gargle with the water for around thirty seconds. When you have finished, spit the water out. Make sure you don’t swallow the liquid, as although it’s completely safe, it will still taste pretty disgusting.

Suck on medicated lozenges –
Medicated lozenges are cheap to buy, available in most stores, and can be very effective for helping to get rid of a painful sore throat. If you want to get rid of a sore throat over night, you could try sucking on these medicated lozenges in the evening, a few hours before bed time. The medicinal ingredients will help to sterilise your mouth, and prevent the germs from regrouping whilst you are sleeping.

Gargle with Cayenne pepper –
This is one of many fantastic home remedies for sore throats, and is proven to also be one of the most effective. Much like the salt water gargle, take a glass and fill it with around 8 ounces of warm water. Once the glass is full, add a generous pinch of Cayenne pepper, and stir until it’s fully dissolved. Make sure that you add a decent sized PINCH of Cayenne pepper, rather than a spoon full. A spoon full would be way too much, and could actually burn your throat and hurt you further, rather than help you. Once the pepper is completely dissolved, simply gargle with the solution for around a minute. This solution is especially effective against nagging sore throats that just will not go away. Where antibiotics have failed in the past to kill off a sore throat after several weeks, this cayenne pepper-warm water solution has done the job on numerous occasions.

Use over the counter painkillers such as Ibuprofen –
Although these tablets and pills do not kill off a sore throat infection, what they do, do is help to reduce the pain quite dramatically. Ask anybody who suffers from sore throats, what the worst thing is about the condition, and they’ll all tell you that it is almost certainly how painful it actually is. By getting rid of the pain, we are reducing the problem quite significantly. Before you know it, you’ll be back to your old self, wondering what all the fuss was about.

Drink plenty of water and other natural fluids –
When we say drink plenty of fluids, we don’t mean go out to the shops and pick up a six pack of beer and to start drinking. No. When we say drink plenty of fluids we mean water and natural fruit juices which are rich in Vitamin C. Water helps to thin out secretions in the throat which could be causing some irritation. Not only that, but keeping your body hydrated will help it to fight off the infection much quicker.

Get plenty of Vitamin C –
As we mentioned above, you should also try to get as much Vitamin C inside you as possible. Vitamin C is great for the body’s immune system, which is what helps to kill of viruses, diseases and infections. The more Vitamin C you ingest, the stronger the immune system becomes, and before you know it, it will have killed off the sore throat virus for good. Vitamin C tablets are great, as well as fruit juices and fruits such as Apples and Oranges.

Drink honey and lemon juice –
If you’re looking for natural ways to get rid of a sore throat, it doesn’t get much more natural than honey and lemons. Honey is produced by bees rather than in a factory, and lemons grow on trees. Honey and lemon juice is arguably the most popular and effective method for curing a sore throat. Simply mix a tea spoon or two of honey, with a good squeeze of lemon juice, in a glass of warm water. You could also add a pinch of Cinnamon for a more pleasant flavour. You should drink the solution as soon as you wake up in a morning, and just before you go to bed at night as well. If lemon juice isn’t your thing then you could substitute it with Apple cider vinegar. If you are using lemon juice, make sure it’s the juice from a freshly squeezed lemon, and not the juice from out of a bottle, or one of those offensive looking, plastic lemons. The juice contained in those is packed with added artificial preservatives and additives and will do you more harm than good.
